Romans Five
So far in our Studies of Romans:
- We have looked at the entire book by way of overview
- Divided the Letter into three parts, Doctrinal, Dispensational and Devotional
- Seen too that the Doctrinal section itself can be divided into three parts following the introduction of verses one to eighteen of chapter one
- We can also add verses, words, images and descriptions to these:
Chapter 1.18 – Chapter 3.20
The Wrath of God, The Courtroom, Why we need to be Saved
Chapter 3.21 – Chapter 5.21
The Righteousness of God, The Cross, How we can be Saved
Chapter 6.1 to Chapter 8.39
The Power of God unto Salvation, The Cave, What it means to be Saved
- Chapter five forms the last part of Paul’s explanation of The Righteousness of God
- Having dealt with those that looked forward to The Cross (Abraham and David)
- He deals with those that look back to The Cross (note the ‘we’ of verses one to eleven)
- And having dealt with Sinners, past and present, Paul will show how God has also dealt with Sin itself (verses twelve to twenty-one)
We might helpfully note in Romans chapter five:
What God is doing/Our Present Enjoyment 1-5
What God has done/Our Past Eclipsed 6-8
What God will do/Our Progress Ensured 9-10
